I didn't want to give in to the hype. The new "Twilight"? Really?!? But my girls wanted to see a movie recently so against my better judgement, I took them to see "Beautiful Creatures". Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen. But you know what? It was pretty good! I was pleasantly surprised to find myself intrigued, laughing out loud, and downright riveted at times. Again, it's not getting an Oscar nod next year but I definitely liked it enough to come home and download the first book onto my Kindle.
Here I am a little over a week later about halfway through the second one ("Beautiful Darkness") and still a big fan. I love that the narrator is the male protagonist for a change. That's refreshing, and Ethan Wate is a pretty funny guy! I often chuckle as I read, but what I love the most is what an old soul he is, which of course is appropo for his character.
So do yourself a favor, don't be like me and turn up your nose at the books just because there could never be anything like "Twilight" - and trust me, I get bashed for loving those books too, but *raspberry* to the haters out there! Read the "Beautiful Creatures" series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. You won't regret it!
P.S. Happy 30th birthday to my dear friend, J-Biz! I loves you! xoxox
